We started with singing Christian songs, praying and then a Bible lesson using balloons. In the picture is a wolf in sheep's clothing or un lobo vestido de oveja! We looked at several verses which included one of my favorites, John 10:10,
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and ]have it abundantly.
El ladrón no viene más que a robar, matar y destruir; yo he venido para que tengan vida, y la tengan en abundancia.
Then we had coloring sheets for the kids. Something very fun is that my son in Maryland prepared the coloring sheet with the Bible verse, John 10:10, and a little graphic of a Bible!
All of these kids really love the opportunity to color!
Then Ellen had prepared a craft for the kids making butterflies from coffee filters! What better verse for this then 2 Corinthians 5:17,
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: The old has gone, the new is here!
Por lo tanto, si alguno está en Cristo, es una nueva creación. ¡Lo viejo ha pasado, ha llegado ya lo nuevo!
The children colored the coffee filters with water washable markers and then the filters were sprayed to let the colors run.
The end results were beautiful and the children were so proud of what they had made!
After the craft we went outside to play some games.
This was a little difficult and I think we only had three who succeeded at getting the ball in the container!
These girls just wanted their picture taken together!
Ellen getting the special snack ready!
I don't remember exactly what these were called but it's a little corn meal dough outside with rice and chicken inside. It was fried so of course it tasted great!
This was super special to have these cupcakes for a dessert snack! See the four candles in the middle?!
It is wonderful to see how patiently the children can wait for the food and sit so orderly to eat.
Before they left one of the volunteers, Aurora, went over the lesson of the wolf in sheep's clothing again by asking the children to explain what it meant and they really remembered!!
Pretty happy little guy even if all the frosting is not quite making it in the mouth!
When the children left they each had their butterfly, a cupcake, a balloon dog, a pretty fancy lollipop and a little bag of candy!
It was just great to see these huge smiles on each face as they were walking away.
Here's a group shot of the kids.
Some of the children are walking to their home to this neighborhood. All of the children come from a poor area of town but these are the poorest.
These are all pretty much one room "houses" with no electricity, no plumbing and usually with only a mom and other siblings.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them,
for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Mt 19:14
